Rhêmes-Notre-Dame

“Uncontaminated and authentic
corner of Paradise”

Set between Valsavarenche and Valgrinsenche, with the unmistakeable outline of the Granta Parey (3,387 meters) in the background, the tranquil Rhêmes-Notre-Dame is the heart of the Val di Rhêmes, one of the purest valleys in the Graian Alps.

In this small and welcoming alpine station immersed in the Grand Paradis National Park you can breathe in an authentic mountain atmosphere, in harmony with the rhythms of nature.

Its scenic position means that it offers incomparable routes and panoramas for lovers of walking and hiking. In the conifer woods which run alongside the river Dora di Rhêmes and Lake Pellaud it is possible to meet with Chamois, Ibex deer and families of Marmots, whilst in the ski majestic eagles and bearded vultures, rescued from extinction

In winter it is a favourite place for lovers of cross-country skiing and alpine skiing, which can be practised along evocative trails, such as the Entrelor Valley.

Action Rhêmes-Notre-Dame

Thrilling climbs: As well as the most popular winter sports, here you can have a go at Piolet-Traction, climbing with ice picks and crampons on spectacular icefalls. Instead, when the temperature rises above zero, you can test out your climbing abilities on the climbing walls of the town, an equipped wall, also suitable for less expert climbers.

The mountains which surround the Val de Rhêmes are ideal for mountaineering ascents on the Granta Parey glacier – 3,387 meters, the Grande Rousse – 3,607 meters, the Becca della Traversière – 3,337 meters, and the Cima Tsanteleina – 3,601 meters. Also, the glacial high route is a mountaineering route which goes along the two slopes of the Italian-French boarder.

Casimiro’s Via Ferrata route: Dedicated to Casimiro Thérisod, the first alpine guide of the Val di Rhêmes, the route winds up an exciting path, accessible from the hamlet of Chanavey. It includes: Tibetan walkways, the ‘corner’, and the chamois’ trail. These are just a few of the most thrilling and typical landscapes of this itinerary, of evocative panoramic views.
