Ollomont - life base

“Rock climbing poetry”

At the heart of the Valpelline, in a verdant and sunny basin, at 1335 meters altitude, the lovely town of Ollomont rises up, among pleasant grassy slopes, lakes and mountain streams. Here nature is the true protagonist and in summer it charms visitors with an array of perfumes and colours, from wild flowers to aromatic herbs.

The peaks, which frame this natural amphitheatre, offer numerous options for hikes and ascents at altitude. With varying grades of difficulty, these routes reach the majestic summits of Mont Vélan (3708 meters), Mount Gelé (3519 meters) and the Grand Combin (4314 meters).

In winter and spring, Ollomont becomes an ideal destination for skiers: novices, cross-country skiers, alpine skiers and lovers of off-piste.

Action Ollomont

Rock climbing walls and indoor free-climbing
The rock climbing walls are located in the village of Vaud. You will find it past the typical mill, cross the Dora, penetrate the forest, and there they are.

Listing all the names of the climbing routes is almost like reading a surrealist poem: No rush one morning (7a/b), Sophie’s dream (6a+), Craxi get in a taxi (5+), Lead and overhang (6b), By Margherita Noris (6°), Passage pour le soleil (5); Variant for the Sun (5+), The Infinite Road (5), Variant of the Infinite Road (6b+), Extreme (6a+), Kate (6b), The Freak’s Road (4), Phenomena (6a+), Departure for Katmandu (6c+) and In search of Peter Pan (6b).

How much imagination these ‘wall spiders’ have!

Ollomont’s Maison Grimpe on the other hand, is a paradise of amateur indoor climbing. The walls offer routes which span 30 levels of difficulty and, when you feel secure of your ‘hold’, then will be the moment to test this discipline of body and mind, in the open air: on the natural rock walls of Vaud and those all over the region.

Cross-country skier’s paradise
The tens of kilometres of routes from Ollomont and the nearby hamlets of Rey and Vouéce are a true joy for cross-country skiers, as they are adapted both for classic techniques and the ski skating step. The circuit of 3 km, of medium difficulty, is perfectly lit by evocative nocturnal ski runs.

Heliski Grand Combin
In the proximity of the Glacier it is possible to be dropped onto the uncontaminated summits of the Grand Combin, where you can immerge yourself in the dazzling white of the snow.
